ในเกม NBA 2K14 ทีมบาสเกตบอลในลีกยุโรป จะมาโผล่ในเกม NBA 2K14 ด้วย 14 ทีมบาสเกตบอลชั้นนำพร้อมด้วยรายชื่อและชุดแข่งที่สมจริง อีกหนึ่งสิ่งที่น่าสนใจใน NBA 2K14 คือการบังคับควบคุมการเล่นในระบบโปรสติ๊ก ที่เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้เล่นส่งลูกแบบไม่มอง และส่งลูกอย่างปราณีตแม่นยำ นอกจากนั้นยังมีปุ่มสมาร์ทเพลย์ ให้ผู้เล่นสามารถปรับใช้รูปแบบแผนที่เหมาะสมในการเล่น, เกม NBA 2K14 จะมีแอนิเมชันใหม่มากกว่า 3,000 แบบ หนึ่งในนั้นคือท่วงท่าทักษะเฉพาะตัวของนักบาสเกตบอลแต่ละคน พร้อมด้วยการปรับปรุงแผนการเล่น และระบบการเล่นให้ดียิ่งขึ้น การเล่นเกมรุกผู้เล่นจะได้เห็นฟุตเวิร์คที่สมจริงในการจั้มป์ช้อต ระบบการเลี้ยงลูกที่ขยายลีลาท่าต่อเนื่อง และความแม่นยำในการส่งลูก การเล่นเกมรับก็มีการปรับปรุง ตัวละครเกมรับที่ควบคุมด้วย AI จะมีการจดจำว่าฝ่ายบุก บุกอย่างไรแล้วประสบความสำเร็จในการทำแต้มและจะมีการปรับตัวเองโดยอัตโนมัติเพื่อไม่ให้เล่นเกมรับผิดพลาดซ้ำเหมือนเดิมอีก การบล๊อคจะมีระบบฟิสิกส์ที่สมจริงยิ่งขึ้นนอกจากนั้นผู้เล่นยังสามารถใช้สติ๊กแกนบังคับทางด้านขวาในการป้องกันการชู้ต การส่ง หรือกดดันฝ่ายตรงข้ามได้
